We are rapidly approaching the coldest time of year—winter with freezing cold weather and smaller amounts of daylight. Thus, volunteering in the Columbia Heights Public Schools (CHPS) garden classroom, Blooming Heights, has come to an end. Agricultural Specialist Ms. Melissa Trent would like to thank all the students who volunteered, all the teachers who held class outside and everyone who helped cook, serve and/or eat the delicious fruits and vegetables the garden had to offer. Here’s hoping just as many loving faces (or more!) return in the spring. Want to join the Blooming Heights email list? Contact Melissa at [email protected]!

Columbia Heights High School (CHHS) students can no longer leave campus during fourth block Study Hall like in previous years. The building administration asks that you sign into study hall in the Media Center and remain there for the whole period or present a pass to supervisor Ms. Tanya Moore to spend the study hall in a teacher’s classroom. Failure to follow this protocol will result in an unexcused absence. Students with Work Experience and/or PSEO classes are exempt from this new school policy—it only applies to students with fourth block Study Hall on their schedule.

Do your homework! A surprisingly small number of CHHS students take advantage of the Homework Center, which is offered Monday-Thursday in the Media Center after school from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. You can get help from teachers on your assignments or simply use the quiet, dedicated space to make sure you’re on track to get the grade you want, study for an upcoming test or even just catch up on reading for English class. Talk to Assistant Principal Mr. Luis Saenz for more information.

Attention Class of 2026: The CHHS yearbook is looking to include senior photos and quotes for the 12th-grade pages! Check your grade level Hylander Home Page on Google Classroom for the Google Form where you can send your photos and quotes. Submissions are due by Friday, December 19—the day before the start of winter break. Questions? Talk to advisers and CHHS art teacher Ms. Honeywell or CHHS sculpture teacher Ms. Dietz.
