Welcome to Teen Voice, the official podcast for Columbia Heights High School’s award-winning student newspaper, The Heights Herald. My name is Christian, and this episode is all about food. You know how some food, to us in the United States, is considered weird or more on the exotic side of things? Think of products like caviar, century eggs, snack variants from different countries, such as cherry blossom Kit Kats or clam chowder Doritos, and other items along these lines. While some may find these foreign foods disgusting, everyone has a different opinion, and honestly, some of them are rather interesting. Let’s get into it. So I am joined today with two guests: Tatiana.
Hi.
And I’m also guesting with Matt.
What’s up?
So to start this podcast off, I’m gonna ask you guys, what is the weirdest food you can think of?
Um, egg-flavored ice cream.
Oof.
I’ve seen weird flavors of ice cream. Like, I think there was, like, a ranch one. They collabed with ranch. That was weird. But I never ate it ’cause…
I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of any of those actually. Though I do kinda think the, the deep-fried, I, I don’t know, deep-fried ice cream is a thing.
Deep, deep-fried anything at the state fair.
Eh, deep-fried… Didn’t they sell, like… This year I know they sold something very weird.
Deep-fried Snickers, I think it was.
Deep-fried Snickers.
That doesn’t sound too bad actually.
It doesn’t, but at the same time, do you really want-
Everything deep-fried and put on a stick?
I mean, we have, like, the classic American, like, delights, like corn dogs or cheese curds or-
Or, like, the funnel cakes.
I’ve actually never had one of those.
Me either.
Have you?
We’ve all never had it. We’re LARPing the state fair, bro.
We are. But, like, when I think of weird food, I think of stuff like the century egg.
Yeah, or weird food combinations that people mix together and swear that they’re good. I’ve heard Japan has a lot of flavors that are, like, considered weird ’cause they just like it.
And we actually do have some food from our global noodles-it’s actually just like imported noodles .
