Have you heard what’s been trending in the fashion department lately? Well none other than the good old western European attire. Dust off your ball gowns, wigs, and suits because it’s time to dress like it’s the 18th century all over again.
Recently, all the influencers have been switching out their cropped shirts and flared jeans for voluminous silk gowns with tight corsets. One of the biggest influences of this resurgence for women has been the Queen of France, Marie Antoinette.
“It’s nice to see proper clothes finally being the norm. I was getting sick and tired of all the baggy jeans lately.” said Antoinette. “I mean honestly, the dresses look so much better than whatever the trends are nowadays.”
With this new trending style coming out ladies have started to wear long, plain dresses known as silhouettes but are quickly shifting over to other styles. The styles of dresses that are “in” are the “robe à la française” which consists of decorated skirts, textiles such as silk, ribbons/lace, and wide skirts. Also popular right now is the “robe à la polonaise” and it is known for being more revealing than the previous outfits since the length was smaller and the necklines were more open.
The men are joining the women by saying goodbye to their jorts and wearing double-breasted suits with embroidered buttons and flower patterns. Along with their decorated suits they’ve been pairing this outfit with slim breeches, stockings, and black buckled shoes. One well known leader that’s been influencing this generation’s fashion is the Sun King himself, Louis XIV, King of France.
“I believe all men should be focused on improving their fashion sense and that starts with having a beautiful wig,” said Louis XIV. “The higher up, the better!”
Well there you have it, the top influencers of 2025 have shared their thoughts on this early modern trend resurfacing. With their extravagant outfits and extensive hair dos, no one can certainly out do the doers and the French definitely know how to do fashion.
