Do’s:
When selecting accessories for your outfit, it’s always important to make sure that they are aesthetically complementary with your choice of clothing. For example, it’s an excellent idea to figure out which hair accessory would suit the outfit the best, and luckily for you, there are tons to choose from! Typically, I choose to go for hair clips just because they suit me the best. But for you, it could be anything from beanies to ribbons and bows, or even headbands! An easier choice of accessories besides these would of course be jewelry. I tend to wear necklaces everyday just for the purpose of it bringing some bling into the picture, as well as rings and bracelets. I do honestly believe that my outfits would be plain or boring without the accessories that I wear — it just makes everything pop out in a sort of sense. Also, wearing chains on your belt loops or around your waist always tend to be very appealing for most aesthetics. Another really simple way to ensure everything goes together is with a phone case! It’s simple because obviously, everybody uses a phone case, so why not color code it to what you choose to wear? Same goes for bags, socks, and sunglasses. (See Winter Tips for more accessorizing knowledge!)
Don’ts:
Failing to color code your accessories to your outfit is one of the biggest mistakes that you could make. Always ensure that the colors blend in and complement each other, making sure things don’t stand out in an unappealing sense. Another thing I try to avoid is wearing more than three necklaces at a time, as it can look too overdone and dramatic otherwise — unless that’s what you want your look to be, then go for it because you would rock it! Always remember that fashion is subjective, and finding the balance between what you like and what you want to try could be the difference between a good and great outfit.
Do’s:
If you’re an avid skirt wearer, I would suggest layering them up sometimes. This fashion move fosters vibrant color, and keeps you nice and toasty during the colder parts of the year. A major suggestion I have when it comes to accessorizing pants/skirts is wearing belts! Best suggestion I could possibly give as it’s one of the easiest ways to present a far more elevated look. If you have belts of different colors, color code them with your outfit! When it comes to jeans, I usually only wear flares or ones with rhinestones. I personally find regular jeans unappealing on myself so those two kinds are the only ones I really enjoy styling. If you happen to feel the same way, try out my suggestions of taking parts of an outfit you don’t like and customizing them. You should feel free to play around while you find your style!
Don’ts:
Yet again, if you’re a person who enjoys wearing skirts, don’t believe people who say they look unappealing over jeans. Skirts over jeans are a late 90s-00s aesthetic and they look incredible when styled correctly! Don’t wait for someone to “bring back” what you want to wear.
Do’s:
It’s already pretty well-known at this point that there are hundreds upon thousands of different styles when it comes to shoes. They’re personally one of the parts I get the most excited about when styling because of how fun it is when you have several pairs to choose from. It’s always necessary to match the colors of shoes and socks to your outfit, sometimes even mismatching your socks is a good idea depending on the colors you have on! Remember even the little details can make or break an outfit.
Don’ts:
You should never be afraid of wearing platforms if you think they’d suit you! They’re extremely easy to walk in as long as they don’t curve downwards like heels.
Do’s:
One way I avoid looking too tedious is by wearing 2-3 different colors at a time! I find wearing monotone outfits or one color and only one color for an outfit is far too dull and makes you blend in too much. Some of my favorite color combinations to wear are black/white, black/pink, pink/white, pink/brown and red/black. It may sound generic, but you can make some extraordinary looks with these simple combinations of colors!
Don’ts:
Avoid wearing a hint of a certain color, but if you’re going to wear it, make sure to rock it. I usually have my jewelry matched with either my socks or my shoes so that I can ensure there’s a bit of color in everything. Another mistake a lot of people make is mismatching patterns! Sometimes it can look attractive, but I’d personally avoid it if you want to look more put together.
Do’s:
One way that I enjoy staying warm while also looking cute during the winter is by layering. Wearing things such as tights, leg warmers, and long socks are all perfect ways of staying warm if you feel like wearing a skirt, although you could still do the same thing if you’re wearing pants, you just may overheat. Other than those things, I typically wear arm warmers and fingerless gloves. I’m not sure about you, but my hands freeze up quickly in the winter. One more important winter accessory is earmuffs! They’re both adorable and so comfortable when it’s snowing out. Last but not least, short sleeves over long-sleeved shirts is something I tend to do a lot considering I barely have any long-sleeved shirts to even wear, it’s just really nice when you feel like showing off a top that you would otherwise be freezing in without the other shirt underneath.
Don’ts:
I’d shout this part from the top of my lungs if I could, but please don’t wear anything that you can’t easily take off in case you begin feeling too hot and lightheaded. It’s always essential to make sure you don’t overdo it! The complete opposite of this applies as well — don’t dress down for the “aesthetic.” Make sure you protect yourself during harsh weather conditions because it’s very clearly not the warm summertime weather.
Do’s:
Figuring out your comfort style is always step one in fashion. After you figure out what your fashion aesthetic is, that’s the easiest way to in turn find the types of accessories that’ll look best. An undoubtedly effortless way to find clothing that you may love is by thrifting! I’m telling you right now there’s no better way of shopping than to go to places like Goodwill, Savers and Plato’s Closet. They have some immaculate finds that I still can’t believe I managed to get. It’s just so much better for the environment since it decreases waste generation. One more overall fashion tip I have is to figure out your favorite features about yourself and flaunt them according to what you wear! You can even do this with makeup — it’s a way to express yourself and it’s also its own form of fashion in my opinion.
Don’ts:
One of the most common things I see day to day is that so many people enjoy blending in with others. I understand that a lot of people despise being the so-called “center of attention,” but standing out in a crowd is sometimes a beautiful thing. Now, most importantly of all, don’t change your sense of fashion for others — do it because you genuinely want to. I promise that whatever you choose to wear, you’re going to rock it.
