“I was very disappointed that there [was a] shutdown of all high school sports for winter, after having what I know [were] no cases of COVID-19 in girls’ swimming this past fall. A pool is a very safe place to be. Chlorine will kill anything. It is the locker room that is dangerous. If a team uses a locker room, only five people change at a time in different locker banks [per COVID-19 protocol]. The restrooms in a locker room are limited to one person at a time. This is what we did. Right now, the boys’ season has started with distance and dryland training. It is very hard to train a swimmer without water. If a person wears a mask on the pool deck at all times and keeps a safe distance, it will work. Safety is the number one priority. I am sad the team cannot use the pool.” -CHHS boys’ and girls’ swimming coach Blair Eckstrom
