Poetry Club

Held by Mr. Chris Polley, Poetry Club specializes in all things spoken word, printed on the page or screen, and everything in between. By joining this club, students are able to connect with one another and express themselves by sharing poems that they’ve written themselves or ones they have watched or read. Students will also share, workshop and recite original poems, found poems and performed pieces. That isn’t the only thing, though. Opportunities to compete in “Poetry Out Loud”, the national poetry recitation contest for high schoolers, and “Be Heard MN”, the statewide youth poetry slam competition, will be available too. In 2019, Donia Abu Ammo (CHHS class of 2020) participated in the Poetry Out Loud State Finals. Mr. Polley hopes that more students join and add into the pool of brilliant, creative and welcoming minds as well as having more students compete for scholarship and cash prizes.
