Food Justice

Food Justice (through the ENCORE program) is a new club this year. The Food Justice club focuses on food-related social justice and highlights food justice issues. Some issues include lack of access to fresh and healthy food, food waste, lack of BIPOC access to land for growing food and much more. One thing that makes Food Justice so fun is that most of it is engaging in outside hands-on activities. Students will also watch short films and videos related to food justice.  Going virtual should not deter students from joining, though. Food Justice leader Mr. Wes Nugteren hopes to raise awareness of food justice issues, provide hands-on experiences for members to grow, nurture, harvest and cook culturally-relevant food, and perhaps most importantly, work together to donate excess Blooming Heights community garden produce to local families in need and connect to local and regional resources so students can consider working toward food justice as a career option. Email Mr. Nugteren ([email protected]) if you want to join or find out more!
