Teachers share their favorite books
Reading is a way to not only take you into another world, but it also improves one’s writing, reading and speaking skills. It is a fun pastime that has been proven time and time again to be directly correlated to intelligence and success. Ms. Yolanda Hennessy is the media center specialist here at CHHS, and her favorite book is “The Notebook” by Nicholas Sparks. She also wants kids to read more and understand the importance of building the habit of reading for pleasure.
“I do understand that it is something in the brain, [but] it is not because someone is smarter than another,” Hennessy said. “Reading keeps the brain working.”
Hennessy, or Ms. Yolanda as she’s more commonly known, has created an atmosphere in the library that she hopes will inspire students to read more because she knows how important it is for students to have a place where it is easy and comfortable to read. Teachers like Hennessy have always encouraged their students to read more to broaden their mind, but what do our teachers here at Columbia Heights High School read?
